100 Years of Beauty

Series Editor / Cut

The past shows us how we face the present. With over 30 episodes in its catalogue, 100 Years of Beauty began in 2014 and it used the vernacular of trendy makeup time-lapse cinematography as a visual method to animate the construction and deconstruction of identities, histories, and politics around the world. Collaborating with models and hair and makeup artists, 100 Years of Beauty set out to show that history is a lot like fashion: editorialized, cosmetic, and entangled between diverse desires, anxieties, and dreams. Along the way, the viral format has inspired creators big and small to tell hundreds of stories from around the world. Dirty Data
